Urgent air cargo charter to Kathmandu in Nepal: Relief flights for USAID

Nepal air cargo charter relief flights

A week ago Nepal was hit by a major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8, resulting in the devastation of large parts of the country and millions of destroyed homes and helpless people. Global rescue operations were activated the same day of the earthquake and within 24hrs the first relief and humanitarian aid flights were set up and operated.

NeWay Logistics is part of this humanitarian campaign and now successfully arranged an urgent relief flight for USAID to Kathmandu in Nepal. The flight was operated by Tristar Air Cargo and NeWay Logistics was the charter GSA in Bahrain.

An Airbus A300F freighter was sent from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates so the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu. The aircraft carried close to 39 tons of relief cargo from USAID on behalf of its US based customer, The Charter Store LLC.

Obtaining the permissions for operating this air cargo charter flight into Kathmandu was a challenging task as the landing permit approvals had to be done through Diplomatic Channels. Also the permits for flying over Indian territory had to be obtained.

The International airport of Kathmandu right now is heavily congested and therefore no permits were issued in the last days. But because of the highly influential status of the USAID organization NeWay Logistics managed to secure all the permissions in time.

The aircraft arrived safely in Kathmandu after it was put on hold in the air for about 45 minutes and then another 30 minutes on the taxi way before it was allocated a parking position. Finally the important relief cargo was offloaded as planned.
