A New Day. A NeWay.

Riyadh to Kathmandu: Relief and aid cargo delivered by multiple cargo charter flights

DHL and NeWay Logistics operate and manage more relief cargo charter flights to Nepal

As the aftermath of the massive earthquake in Nepal still unfolds, the demand for urgent cargo charter flights is still high. In the last days, NeWay Logistics and DHL Aviation managed and operated more relief flights to Kathmandu.

The inquiry for the transport of this relief/humanitarian aid cargo came from Saudi Air Cargo and the Saudi Red Crescent. The cargo consisted of medical supplies, food and tents and was transported on seven flights between Riyadh (RUH) and Kathmandu (KTM). Each flight with a Boeing 757-200F aircraft consisted of a maximum of 15 positions and a payload of 28 tons. Because of the overall distance and the expected ground time at destination, the crew of each flight was changed during a quick stop in Bahrain (BAH).

The approach into Kathmandu remains as challenging as ever: The airfield is 1338 meters above sea level and the surrounding peaks of the Himalayan Mountains reach well over 8000 meters. This means a steep and fast descent, all with a fully loaded aircraft. Kathmandu airport itself remains extremely busy, stands and the limited equipment are in full use, ground staff is working overtime.

NeWay Logistics expects and is ready to handle more demand for relief flights to Nepal in the upcoming weeks, as the approaching rain season will not make the situation in the earthquake affected region any easier.
