Urgent air cargo charter: Ilyushin 76 delivers large size engine for aircraft on ground

Recently NeWay Logistics successfully operated a very urgent and special air cargo charter from Sharjah to Tanger. The task was to move a large size aircraft engine in its stand for an aircraft which was AOG (aircraft on ground) in Morocco.

The air cargo charter experts from NeWay Logistics quickly decided to use the Russian work horse Ilyushin 76 (IL-76) to execute the task. The overall weight of the aircraft engine was ‘only’ 4750kg, an almost regular payload in the air cargo charter market. But the size of the cargo and the urgency to get the engine to the requested destination made the operation quite a challenge.

‘A challenge we were happy to take up’, said Erwin Burger, General Manager of NeWay Logistics. ‘Transporting large or oversized air charter cargo urgently between difficult or remote destinations in the Middle East and North Africa is what we are really good at.’

But it is not just the transport of the special cargo itself that requests air charter cargo experts with vast experience. An operation as this involves lots of paperwork and coordination with authorities in different countries within a very limited time frame.

The international team of NeWay Logistics worked around the clock in order to get all permissions and handling arrangements in place on time, using its extended network to closely communicate, cooperate and work with authorities, and partners in the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia and Morocco.

The flight from SHJ (Sharjah,UAE) to TNG (Tanger, Morocco) was operated via TUN (Tunis, Tunisia) where it made a quick technical stop for refueling purposes, before arriving in Tanger.

The demand of the client was met and the engine was fixed onto the aircraft the very same day.
