Port strike Calais: NeWay Logistics operates urgent cargo charter on behalf of DHL

Port strike at Calais

During the port strike in Calais (France), NeWay Logistics recently operated an urgent air cargo charter flight on behalf of DHL in the United Kingdom using an Antonov AN-12, flying from Birmingham (BHX) in the United Kingdom into Lyon (LYS) in France. The aircraft carried a cargo of very urgent machinery parts, loaded onto 23 pallets in total with an overall payload of close to 13 tons.

Normally this cargo would have been moved on land and by truck, but due to the recent port strike at Calais in France no trucks were able to move in or out and go by ferry across the Channel. The only quick and reliable solution was an urgent air cargo charter flight.

The request from the client came in on very short notice and the flight was fully set up during the evening and departed successfully from BHX in the morning. The cargo arrived in Lyon one hour earlier than the delivery deadline provided by the customer.

NeWay Logistics will closely monitor the developments at ports in Europe which might be affected by further strikes in order to react quickly to urgent air cargo charter requests between the UK and France or other countries in mainland Europe.
